Leadership

Berkeley Electric Cooperative has taken a leadership role in the Economic Development efforts of the South Carolina Lowcountry.  Our staff works closely with Economic Development professionals in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties to insure that our industrial and commercial prospects and existing customers considering expansion, receive the information and assistance they need in a concise, timely manner.

Expertise

Our dedicated team of Economic Development professionals, led by Mark Gaddy, Manager of Economic Development, consists of a rate specialist, engineers, and an account manager who understand that thorough, reliable information coupled with quick turnaround are essential to industry decision makers considering our area.  We pledge to provide unequalled customer service to insure that your experience with Berkeley Electric Cooperative is both productive and pleasurable.

Incentives

For qualified industrial customers, Berkeley Electric Cooperative also offers financial incentives to assist with certain infrastructure costs as well as a menu of rates to match customer needs.  Berkeley Electric’s assistance, both financial and technical has been instrumental in attracting such industries as Google, Parker Hannifin, Fruit of the Loom, American LaFrance and Quoizel.  We are proud of our efforts to help bring these new industries and the jobs they create to our communities, and we are equally proud of the close relationships we share with these customers long after the location process is completed.

Available Sites

Berkeley Electric Cooperative is proud to serve numerous first class industrial parks in Berkeley and Dorchester Counties.  In Berkeley County we serve the Mt. Holly Commerce Park, a Class-A park on Highway 52.  We also serve the Charleston Trade Center, the Jedburg Commerce Park and the Rockefeller Group Foreign Trade Zone - all conveniently located along I-26 in the Summerville/Jedburg area.  In Dorchester County we serve the McQueen Park and the Atlantic Park, both in close proximity to I-26.

Teamwork

In addition to the incentives and expertise that we provide, Berkeley Electric is also part of a larger economic development team known as the South Carolina Power Team.  This team made up of the 20 South Carolina Electric Cooperatives, Santee Cooper, South Carolina’s public generation and transmission company, and Palmetto Economic Development Corporation, our economic development marketing organization, has come together to form the most effective power delivery system in the state.  “Providing retail power at a lower cost than the state, regional and national averages, this Power Team has been credited with attracting billions of dollars in capital investment and thousands of jobs to South Carolina.”
