Safety Information
|
Electricity is both a comfort and convenience that we enjoy and sometimes take for granted.
Electricity is also a clean, safe form of energy when used properly and simple precautions are taken when: |

|
- When working around power lines, always maintain a safe working distance. If you are not sure if you can accomplish your task safely, always contact your co-op.
- Never attempt to move or touch a down power line. Secure the area and immediately call your local district office.
-
Whenever doing projects around the house that require digging, such as installing a fence or simply landscaping, be sure you know where any underground power lines may be located. Berkeley Electric subscribes to a locating service that is free of charge to its consumers, so if you are unsure, call Palmetto Utility Protection Service (PUPS) at 1-888-721-7877.
South Carolina state law requires that you give PUPS a 72-hour notice before you dig.
- Using electricty around water can be very dangerous. If an appliance should fall into the water, immediately unplug it. And remember, never attempt to clean an electrical appliance by immersing it in water.
- Remember that wood is a conductor of electricity. If you have trees that need to be cut or trimmed that are near power lines, please contact the district office nearest you.
